Literally: that which girds water.

Today’s Navajo word means jar. Like tónteel, tózis deals with water, or in this case, a liquid.

Take a look at the first part of the word; tó means water. The latter part, zis, means to secure, to gird, or to surround. So in that same way, it could also refer to a water bag.
